Founded in 2012, Syncom emerged from the collaborative vision of co-founders Kristyn Heywood and Shane Sykes. Their partnership is firmly grounded in a shared philosophy of ethical business practices and an unwavering commitment to safety.

Kristyn brings a diverse wealth of experience from various industries, including telecommunications, marketing, advertising, software development, and business development. Her multifaceted background has honed her business acumen, which she now leverages to steer Syncom towards sustainable growth. Kristyn’s forward-thinking approach involves harnessing smart technology to enhance the customer experience and optimize operational efficiencies.

Shane, a registered electrician for over 25 years, boasts an extensive technical knowledge spanning across multiple trades, underscored by an unwavering commitment to safety. His extensive background includes 20 plus years working with real estate agencies. Allowing Shane to seamlessly merge his technical expertise with the needs of owners and property managers, instrumental in shaping Syncom’s approach to customer service.

Our origins

Syncom’s journey began back in 2012, when Syncom, then operating under the name “Home Safety Inspections”, conducted its very first electrical and carbon monoxide safety inspections in rental properties, the foundation for a commitment to safety was laid. Throughout these formative years, we closely adhered to the guidelines set by regulatory bodies such as the Victorian Building Authority and Energy Safe Victoria, ensuring that rental properties were consistently maintained in a state of “good repair”.

The culmination of our early journey came after nearly a decade when Consumer Affairs Victoria introduced stringent regulations for electrical, gas, and smoke alarm safety checks in rented premises. This pivotal development validated Syncom’s mission to transform safer homes from a vision into a reality. 

In the lead-up to the 2021 Residential Tenancies Regulations, our collaboration with real estate agencies was instrumental. These partnerships granted us a deeper understanding and perspective, enabling us to refine our services. We focused on how suppliers like us could make the safety check process more efficient and user-friendly for rental providers, property managers, and renters. This period of growth and partnership was crucial in shaping our approach to delivering streamlined, reliable services.
